How to turn your balcony into a beautiful oasis

Living in large cities, we often encounter problems like limited space and a struggle for more greenery in our lives. Fortunately, even the smallest balcony can become a part of paradise. This is why we present you some ideas that can make your terrace a beautiful green oasis.

Nearly 90% of the world's population spends around 22 hours a day at home, school, office or in a vehicle. Most of our time (92% on average) is being spent indoors without sunlight and fresh air.

So, it is not surprising to see that when days become longer and temperatures start rising, a desire to go outdoors in the wild naturally intensifies. With this desire, we strive to expand and enrich the green spaces in our homes, starting from the balcony, the terrace and getting to the courtyard. This way we can improve both, our physical and mental health.

Those who want to unify practicality and leisure time, can turn their home terrace into a source of fragrances and flavors. Vertical gardens are already available to buy, but with the help of few tools, everyone can come up with effective solutions for their spices and decorative fruits.

The combination of edible plants such as strawberries, raspberries, currants, cherry tomatoes, or hot peppers with aromatic spices such as mint, thyme, basil, etc. make stunning and unusual gardens a big trend for 2019.

Are you looking for a more romantic garden? Bring a water element - a mirror, a sculpture or a fountain. Аquatic plants will bring freshness into the hot summer.

There are countless species that are ideal for home terraces, including dwarf varieties that can bloom even in a small bowl of water.

If you have space and a larger bowl, you can pair water lilies with small fish and other aquatic plants such as Lemna major to create a whole miniature ecosystem.

If you want to give a more exotic look to your terrace, you can create a charming tropical garden using the available interior vegetation. The different types of palms, bananas, benjamin fig and hollyhock will give the impression of a tropical island in the hectic urban environment.

The creation of eco-friendly gardens is important due to the climate change. They are also a major trend for 2019. We are seeing the creation of more and more green gardens to deal with the extreme weather conditions, observed across Europe in last years. The tendency is to use the right plants for the conditions of any garden or plant composition. It aims at conservation of water resources and utilization of excess water, which is collected and then reused. Naturally-occurring species and more drought-resistant plants from the family of cacti and succulents (as well as species typical for Bulgaria) are selected. There is also a bigger usage of pots with systems for water accumulation and reuse.
